1) How is interest created in the opening scene?
When the ghost of the old king enters the scene 
2) What information are we given to help us understand the situation?

Old Hamlet killing Old Fortinsbar, and now his son wants to avenge his death, we are also giving that Denmark is close to war with other countries. 
3) What happens at the end of the scene to create suspense and keep up the reader’s interest?

It ends with them seeing the ghost, and the ghost is foreshadow either to something great is why he is there or its a foreshadow to something bad. Then they continue talking saying they most go see with young Hamlet, at that time its morning 
4) What is the mood of the scene?

Its very dark and gloomy, its a very cold night because the castle is right next to the ocean also, but it can feel cold because of the ghost entering and exiting the scene as well.
5) Why are the sentries apprehensive (there are two reasons)?

One is because of the old kings ghost, another is because there country might go to war because of trading and them building more cannons
6) What reasons are suggested by Horatio for the appearance of the late King’s ghost?

His body was not laid to rest properly, he has a lost treasure or because of war and the ghost of there leaders are there to represent armor and morale the troops.

Ghost, Horatio, Barnardo, Marcellus, Francisco 
8) List one thing Horatio says about the former King?

That he use to be a warmonger and went to battle before he died
9) Who is young Fortinbras?

He is the son of Old Fortinbras that was killed by Old Hamlet
10) What does Horatio say happened in Rome after Julius Caesar was murdered?

It was very sad and depressing after Caesar died because he was the great leader and general of the city, he made rome an amazing city he built more then just an army and not the great creator is dead. 
11) How does Horatio differ from Marcellus and Barnardo in scene 1?

Horatio is smart and a scholar he is not a guard or watch like the other two, he studies his books more then fighting in combat. 
12) What is Horatio’s purpose in scene 1 (why is he present)?

He is there because he is a smart scholar and the guards wanted him to see the ghost with his own eyes and he might have had gotten the ghost to talk. 
13) What past history (Denmark’s history) is revealed in scene 1?

It shows why the city is going to war and with the battles it has been in previously because of there leaders
